take me
to the sun i'm glad you missed your
train i'm glad my car broke down cause otherwise we
wouldn't be together we took the last one in that's how it all began and now my life seems a
whole lot better you could be the one to take me to the sun you could be the one in any weather i'm glad we had a drink you are the missing link i find it strange to think
that we're together what else can i say? you are my lucky day chance like this doesn't
knock forever you could be the one to take me to the sun you could be the one in any weather i was all alone 'til i found you it's a simple song but it's so true to think you'll move away change your mind and stay you could be the one in any weather the sight of you is bright
no clouds around tonight so why don't you believe
me when i tell you no matter if it rains your presence heals my
pain trust me when i tell you
that i need you you could be the one |

This song was commissioned by a
friend. It's his story. He prodded me to finish it as soon as
possible in order to woo a girl he just met, before it was too late…. They hit it off really well, but
unfortunately she had already made plans to move away for school or something
or other. He was intent on doing
whatever possible to keep her in town, even if it meant
"serenading" her with a rough demo I put together on the fly. These lyrics are bordering between being
deceptively simple and being cliché.
I wrote this song at a time when I was self-conscious about performing
too many songs that were personal or somber. I desperately needed something uplifting, and his story
was a perfect vehicle. Not surprisingly, this song seems to go
over well consistently underground.
It's a safe, wholesome song with a healthy hook. Occasionally though, I can catch a
hipster passerby get wind of my lyrics, and notice a slight roll of the
eyes. How many songs state
"you could be the one" or "I was all alone ‘til I found you"? Hundreds. But like I said, "It's a simple song, but it's so
true…." So did he get the girl? I think she was a hipster. |
