2. not the one |

something
has got to you you know there's nothing
to prove you argue but say nothing
new you know i wouldn't stray so what are you trying to
do? don't walk away i'm here to stay something has got to you i can't help but be amused so come here and tell me
your fears i'll try not to be
insincere you know i couldn't fake our love for six straight
years don't walk away i'm here to stay something has got to you i can't help but be amused try not to be so insecure my good intention is always pure something has gotten to
you i'm trying to be amused why are we always here? it's time to move on my
dear let's walk away enjoy the day |

This is a relatively new song, redemption for Not the One. This time the
role is reversed. I'm the mature one
trying to console my dramatic partner.
The subject is fictional though.
I can't claim I've been in a six year relationship. Although, I'm
getting close to it with my open
partnership of five years. Difference
is, straying and dramatics don't apply as a result. Lucky for both of us. In
my opinion, this song is perhaps my weakest execution in terms of the
recording. A moment in time that I
left intact because of particular live elements that filtered onto tape. I could have gone back and improved upon my
delivery, but it would have seemed contrived. The
"scotch whiskey" reference in the beginning was unplanned. We left it in as a reminder of the pace and
objective of this project: "To hit it and quit it!" It was an imaginary toast I made to sooth
my nerves upon tracking. Recording for
me doesn't come easy. It's hard to
fully let go like I do in the subway, ‘cause everything is so audible
and under the microscope. |
