lovely
lady you're a woman that stays
up at night your tv
is my only light i stay awake for you your window offers quite a
sight your lovers have an
appetite i would too you're a lovely, lovely
lady your life is entertaining some mornings while i sit outside you walk your dogs, those
lucky guys they get to be with you i wonder why you don't ask why i stare at you, why don't you try i want to get with you you're a lovely, lovely
lady your life is entertaining i'm not your
league it's not my speed and i don't
think that i could call i'd cross the
street i'd love to meet but i don't
think that you would fall or anything at all your glamour has a darker
side i wonder how you sleep at night somehow you make it look
alright you carry on without a
fight you're a lovely, lovely
lady you're life is
entertaining |

I've been in some apartments in NYC where you can see directly across
into other people’s places and see everything. This storyline is made up. It's perhaps a cryptic song, but with a little
set up, I think you'll get the picture. OK,
so picture a man eager to come home from his late evening shifts. Every night, he cracks a beer, grabs a
chair, turns off the light, and sits in front of his bedroom window. By the flicker of late night TV that
emanates from the bedroom across the street, he can spy everything that goes
on in there - I mean everything.
This song is rich with double entendre metaphor. She's an affluent woman on the go. Those lucky dogs, for example, could either
be her set of pedigree Pekinese, or her "clients". You pick. |
