Davis

Davis Sq. Red Line: The train barrels through with deafening speed, but a small price to pay for the cathedral like acoustics in this station! The massive concrete architecture features high ceilings with ample sunlight that filters in from the street level sky windows. There’s an outlet conveniently placed underneath the bench where I perch, in the event my amp is low on battery power, and I’m in clear eyeshot of the hip Somerville clientele that cascades down the grand staircase. There’s a long mezzanine balcony overlooking the platform where on occasion folks will stand and listen. Once or twice I’ve been hit on the head with a quarter.

Park Street

Park St. Red Line: Not what it used to be. Buskers through the years have perpetually occupied this “main stage” because of its central location. By now though, I’m beginning to suspect the public has become desensitized and oblivious to our presence there. Still, its location provides high visibility and because of the tradition, a very comfortable spot to play when you can get it. Some capitalize on the many sport events that flood the station when games let out, but I just run for cover. Guess I’m not the “Freebird!” enthusiast I lead on to be.

Hynes / ICA

Hynes Convention Center Green Line (outbound):  This was my favorite station in Boston back in the day. It was an untapped resource that features three different lines which branch out and shuttle a variety of college students, artist types, and all around up-and-coming folk to their respective burgeoning neighborhoods (Brighton/Allston, Coolidge Corner). The staggered effect of the B, C, and D lines always meant there was an audience waiting in the platform, as opposed to the clientele being swept away by one train every five to ten minutes. I worked this station so much, that in time I built a “following” of support. I moved away like the majority of the regulars, so going back to my old haunt is not as profitable. This station is overrun by BU and BC freshmen. Something I used to appreciate.

Harvard

Harvard Sq. Red Line (inbound): Like Park St., this perennial station’s appeal lies in its location and tradition. Renown for the circus of buskers that monopolize the outdoors during the summer months, Harvard Sq. is a great tourist trap. The station is a highly coveted sideshow tent, if you will, ideal for catching the crowds that filter down the long ramp onto the platform.

I generally find playing in Cambridge more appealing than playing in Buawston across the Charles River.
